Hello everybody, as you know we are Mercè and Laia and fort he last oral presentation we have decided to choose an interesting topic because anyone have chosen it.
The mundial school level is the litle of our presentation.

Well, first, we want to give you some infromation about PISA that are the responsoble of the international evoluation.

Their work is to compare the academic results of the 15 years old students of differents countries about Maths, reading, sciences and problems resolutions and they classify the academic level between 1 to 6.
The countries that participated the last in 2006, were those that you can see

Now, let’s go to see the results that Catalonia had:
Catalans students have a three level of sciencies, so this results aren’t bad because they are on the average of the OCDE countries.
In Maths the level is acceptable, also with the three level, but the main problem is with the reading comprehension because Catalonia is over average this results as you can see are bad and we ask ourselves which are the causes.

David: Do you know which are the causes?
Well, one of the causes is the immigration, because a lot of studies that did the exams weren’t born in Spain and some of them have just arrived and they didn’t dominate the catalan and they didn’t arrive to the level.
An other cause that you can see in our highschool, is that in third ESO there are a lot of students repeating.
Also it is curious that if the parents have studied until to 14 years old and they have a good economy the sutudent has good marks.

In spite of that all countries have same conditions and so the governament is seardring the way to imporve the reading comprehension in catalan and is spanish and working to improve the level.

We think that the work of PISA is useful to help the countries to know if they education is good or bad like catalonia.

Nuria: Why do you choose arts batxillerat if not scientific batxillerat?
Well, she isn’t a strange case, because it cheek that the majority of girls are better on arts, reading that not on maths or chemical, this is more for boys. But every rule has his expiation and we are a exception. But if you look you can see that, for example, in this school, has more boys in scientific batxillerat that not in arts batxillerat, for something it must be not?

We also think that before they teach you less information but it was more important for life
And the last problem of our adolescent live, the university, it’s very difficult chose a degree when we only have 17 years old, and this degree it’s for all of our live. For this it has a very big percentage of boys and girls, that they left the degree on the first year, the reasons it’s always the same, because they think that the degree was a choose and result that is another completely different, maybe it’s a problem of information, or maybe that how a lot of people said that the degree on the first year it’s the worse. Well we expect that we can pas this to us!

Well, as we could be talking about this topic a lot of hours, we want that you think about this and in a future ewe hope that the problem will be resolved our oral presentation finishes here, we hope that you liked it and you have understood that also people who lives in the devoleped would need a change.

Jamaiiica

Hello class, Hello teachers.

Good morning everybody

Well, the country that we chose is Jamaica because we think that it’s a country that can interest to all the class. Ok, let’s start.

Jamaica it’s the third biggest island of Antilles. The Capital is Kingston that it’s the biggest commercial city. The official language is English but the Jamaicans spoke a local dialect which is a mixture of words in Spanish, African and French

The islanders are nice and friendly people and they love smiling. His economy is based on the fishing, the growing of pigs and the cultivation of their lands. They still follow the tradition of build their house with wood and paint the wall with shine colors. The music is in their blood, and they love dancing. The minimum musical sound in the distance takes them to it.

I’m sure that everybody sometimes have been listening about the (restafarismo), but I think that anybody know a lot about it. The (restafarismo) isn’t a religion, it’s is a culture, that was born in Jamaica, and it around all the Caribe and in the black communities of Gran Britain and USA. His culture is based on the bible.

For them, the (rasta) is a very important symbol and they respect it a lot,
The flag of the (rastafirs) is red, that means the blood spread of our brothers, the yellow the gold, the green it means the grow, and the black the colour of the skin of their brothers

Well now we speak about the music of Jamaica. Jamaica has different kinds of music like, ska, rocksteady, dub, dancehall, ragga y ragga jungle, and finally the most typical and that everybody knows is the REGGAE
The reggae is a derivation of ragga, that is an abbreviation of raggamuffin, in English his significate is harapiento. We use this label to descript the poor in Jamaica, and also the Rastas and cultural movements of the poor districts.
The name “reggay” his means is “regular”.

The most popular music is the reggae wich Bob Marley created, who did a culture, with his music. The first kind is ska where he was the father. Also, he create a band called: “The Skatalites”. Other oldest music on the island is Mento, the Ghost and Calypso.

The Reggae’s father is Bob Marley that you know. Bob Marley was a musician and member of Rastafari Moviment.
Their songs talk about peace and love, and whit their rhythm people fly and discover other fascinating worlds.

One of the best-known anecdotes about the Jamaica sport is the victory of his selection in the world championship bobsleigh, a winter sport.
Jake the other day said that Jamaica hasn’t got a good team of Football, but we say now, that in 1998 Jamaica went to World Cup of football, this it’s a great job, but they only got 3 points, and they can’t passed to the other round.

If you go to Jamaica don’t forget to eat the most famous lunch: “the rondón” and the “bushy” that is a very delicious drink but also is very strong, control because you can get drunk.

My summer in Oxford

Hi, Good morning students and teacher, well I think everybody meet me, I’m Mercè Bolasell

Now I went to explain my summer in Oxford, I went there with a friend Rebecca I can say that it was fantastic!! Because 3 weeks without parents and with friends it’s a perfect think in the world =D.
But I went there for improve my English, and also for learn more new languages, because there I met friends of different countries. I think there we were different people of 30 countries as for example Japan, China, Citrus, Russia, Germany…and more.

I went to a summer school, but there in the other seasons is a school. The name of the place it’s Saint Edward School, it’s a typical English school, old and beautiful, that you can see in the films, with a big garden in the middle, the principal area, a big dinning room, a little church, a big park, and the residences it’s the place went I’d my room, the boys and girls are separate whit houses, or residence, that it’s the same, my residence it’s call McNamara’s house, there we had a lot of thinks, how a kitchen with cookies, coffee, tea, a internet area, the bed rooms, the room, and the toilets and the shower room.
In the room I stayed whit a Japanese girl and a French girl, the both are very nice, pleasant, and friendly.

Now how I can explain the dinning room I need to explain the food!! I said the food in England is terrible! The only things I can eat are a fast food: McDonald’s, Burger king, I know that is bad for me, but the food in the school are so bad, and there we eat every day pasta or pizza, the best food there. And also in our free time we went to a supermarket to buy some chocolate and good food like sandwich.

This course it’s same a school, because I did classes 5 days a week, but I had free days on Wednesday, Thursday half a Tuesday, for me the week started on Fridays. The classes were very exiting, because We didn’t do typical class whit a book if not we learned things whit games, speaking, thinks of the reality, and mixed whit this we learn something new, I think you learn more whit this funny elements. And in the afternoon we did another different class, but every week we changed. These classes are like drama, make adverts, does music… there you learn thinks you maybe can use in the real live.
I and my other Spanish friend did an International Sports Academy, there we played basketball in a pavilion, and we did every day accept our free days 3 hours of basketball! It’s mortal! But if I can say the truth, there we were more people of Oxford than the other countries.

In our free days we went to excursions, we went 2 days in London normally 3 hours visited monuments, like the eye tower and National Gallery and 5 hours shopping, we went also to Bath, and to Brighton this is the capital of the “gays in Britain” it’s true, in the street were a lot of flags of gays and lesbian, I don’t understand why we went there, because it’s a boring place. And the half days we went to shopping in Oxford.

And for finish I explain my “last day in Oxford”, first in the night (at 8 o’clock) I cried and I was sad, because the people that I shared 3 fantastic weeks, I’m sure I don’t see more… this is the worse thing about this summer. And another thing it’s a secret…because how the teachers only left us 1 hour for stay together, in the night at 1 o’clock when everybody were sleeping, a fifty boys and girls escaped in the park in front of the school, and we stay 3 hours more together. How everybody stayed in different house, everybody escaped with different ways, for example I and 6 girls more, we went out of a window on the first flat, and after we climbed a wall of 2’5 meters, it was difficult but it was worthwhile.

Well this is a little summary of my 3 weeks in Oxford… I wait that you like. And if you want a question, this is the moment …
